The Ethics of speaking of Things suggest that we are who we are because of our relationship with Things, in this sense, we are also the way Things are manufactured: against the lives of laborers in the Majority World. This video acts as a séance for revealing the secrets of our hardware, their birth and death, where they are mined, and where they are disposed of. Using Ψυχοσάββατο (psixosavato), as a spiritual vessel for traveling between two worlds, the candles create wormholes that reveal not only the secrets of our devices but also the losses surrounding them. A 93-year-old retired factory worker from the Fertilizer Factory of Drapetsona, recalls his time at the factory. While we listen to his memories of how it was to work in a highly toxic environment unfold, Google Street View acts as a time capsule. We see the remnants of his narration as they were captured by the Google car from 2009 till 2019. Found footage from the Fertilizer factory of Drapetsona in the ‘90s, the factory of LARCO, whose workers face mass redundancies, laborers in China being turned into viral TikTok videos, as well as videos from the industrial area of Drapetsona now, are weaved together into a compost of the working class struggles that were and are.

In a deeply heteronornative society, anyone that does not conform is an error. A glitch in an otherwise perfectly calculated simulatrix of how life ought to be. A glitch brings the system’s insides out, it reveals its gears and strips the curtain that separates the audience from the backstage. It reveals the magician’s trick, it ruins the illusion of a seamless, user-friendly interface. As Legacy Russell has mentioned in Glitch Feminism: A Manifesto, a glitched body reclaims reality, it defies the norms, becomes dangerous, a threat to society.
If a glitched body is the deviation, then the computer interface is normative society. An interface is carefully tested, extremely guided with preset strict boundaries. Every click is calculated, every outcome is expected. When the computer system is corrupted, it is considered faulty. Infected with a virus which instead of giving the expected results, it brings out the unexpected. The unexpected is alien, is potentially dangerous and it is definitely an obstacle to the organic flow of labor. When a virus infects a computer and it corrupts its data, it reduces productivity, it costs Capitalism. Capitalism has effective ways to either disregard or assimilate any threats and neoliberalism is one of its tools.
